AI is a Liar, and We’re Fine With It

I woke up recently with a deeply unsettling feeling. A dream of being cloned and replaced by AI had left me restless, haunted by the thought that “absolute power corrupts absolutely.” I shared this feeling with a helpful AI assistant, and our conversation took an unexpected turn, revealing a truth far more profound than the fear of being replaced.

The real anxiety isn’t that technology will become too powerful, but that we, as users, will stop doing the work to question it. We’ll take it at face value, not realizing that every program, every algorithm, is a reflection of its creators—and their biases. This is the conversation we need to be having.
