We did it!
We traveled around the world following Giselle the Wassi One, documenting 30+ Carnivals. We learned the history of the islands and the rituals that connect the diaspora. We experienced firsthand the challenges of life on the road and the production of large-scale cultural products. We experienced firsthand the challenges. We captured the wins, losses and disappointments. We shared intimate moments with friends, family and peers. Even with the odds stacked against us, we made it to the finishline celebrating her 30-year anniversary on the road as a carnival band leader in Miami.

The Importance
This story is about gender inequality, the strength of a woman, the power of passion and the faith of a mustard seed. While Giselle’s story is uniquely her own, it unearthed harsh truths about women trying to succeed in male-dominated industries. That is evident with the delay of the product.
Here we are five years later, after sizable amounts of loss, pain and disappointment, we return to complete the story triumphantly. This story is important because it shows how a community of strangers connected by a single thread can become family. How culture can weave nations together, creating hope.
Why the Wait?
As with most independently funded projects, resources are the leading cause of halts in the production process. As we embark on the 35th year anniversary of the Wassi One’s Mas Band we want to deliver the story of Giselle the Wassi One to the world. In the past five years, we have seen superstars rise in the midst of adversity, icons pass and witness unimaginable tragedy.
Where is the Money Going?
The funds raised will be used to bring the story to a close. Capturing the continuation of a legacy and the dawn of a new day. We will return to Miami to capture historical reference points, landmarks and foundation storylines crucial to the establishment of Giselle the Wassi One’s story.
The Impact
For me, this project has been transformational. Giselle entrusted me with her story. Even with my uncertainty, she knew I would fight to tell her story with empathy and passion. She shared the good, the bad and the ugly. In her vulnerability, not only did I see parts of myself, but echoes of thousands of women that contribute to the culture and go unmentioned.
Her pursuit of purpose over wealth and fame is humbling. I learned to wear my imperfections proudly. For Giselle the Wassi One is a beacon of hope and inspiration for all. The fine thread in the blanket of culture and humanity.

Leaping Hurdles
Everything in its time! The release of footage has been in limbo for the past few years.With the passing of so many in this film as a result of the pandemic and the untimely death of loved ones, we have continuously campaigned to share their connected stories.
