As a Bahamian expat, I love carnival. The joy of reconnecting with my ancestors and embracing the common connection across cultures is incredibly freeing. This June, I had the opportunity to experience two wonderful carnivals in Columbia SC and Charleston SC - both of which celebrated Bahamas culture during their respective events! In Columbia SC, talented Bodine Victoria represented our islands with a distinct Bahamian sound that was truly mesmerizing. In Charleston SC Carifest went all out for three days dedicated to celebrating everything Bahamas-related - from its shared cultural experiences to hosting His Excellency Sir Wendell Jones as an added treat! It's no wonder why Carnival has become so popular; it's simply magical!
